How We Met
In late 2017 Melissa followed Albert on a social media website called Twitter. She didn’t expect him to follow her back but he did and every now and then they would engage in some harmless flirting. Fast forward to a few months later in February 2018 when Melissa asked a question about wedding hashtags.
Albert responded, saying that not much went with his last name. Melissa flexed her keen copywriting skills and came up with #EasilyEaly right then and there, with the condition that he paid her if he ever ended up using it. Albert, smooth as ever, asked if he’d still have to pay her if she was the one he ended up marrying. They started planning the wedding in their Direct Messages while also exchanging numbers.
After a month of daily FaceTime calls, phone calls, and constant text messages, Albert made the 13 hour trip from Haughton, Louisiana to Newport News, VA to meet Melissa for the first time. On March 27, 2018 he officially asked her to be his girlfriend and they’ve been together ever since!
The Proposal
After 6 blissful years together, Melissa woke up on the morning of May 11, 2024 (the day after her 34th birthday) asking Albert what her other gift was. She knew he was keeping something from her because she witnessed him whispering something in her friend’s ear earlier that week and she assumed it was related to her birthday. Albert played coy, pretending to still be groggy from his sleep and Melissa went ahead and prepared for their day.
Albert and Melissa prepared to head to Charlotte to see one of their favorite Broadway shows, Hadestown, at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. The show was amazing but quickly became a mere afterthought when Albert led Melissa down to the lower level of the lobby where she noticed one of her sisters standing in the corner. Melissa immediately realized what her other birthday gift was as the rest of her family began to gather around them and Albert took her by the hands. It was there, under the rotunda, with the show attendees watching from the upper levels, that Albert proposed to Melissa and she enthusiastically (and emotionally) said yes.
